Abstract
methacholine bronchial provocation test(MBPT) by modified Chai's method was done to evaluate their diagnostic value in 20 patients with chronic ough(Group 1), and 10 normal subjecvts(Group II).
@ES The results were as follows
@EN 1) In the control group, there was no decrease in FEV1 with increasing concentrations of Methacholine, and none of them showed positive response to MBPT. However in Group 1, 15 patients(75%) showed bronchial hyperreactivity with methacholine.
2) Inhalation of isoproterenol to those with positive MBPT caused significant bronchodialtion(FEV1 increase was over 20%) in 14 of 15 patients.
Therefore MBPT can be used as a valuable tool for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of asthma in patients with chronic cough.
